It’s one of the most effective cosmetic treatments available, particularly in the UAE’s most-visited destinations, like Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Why Teeth Whitening?

One of your most valuable assets is your smile; it is the first thing people will notice about you. A white smile is not only more attractive than a yellow one, but it also gives you a more youthful appearance, which is obviously an added bonus for most adults!

Although our teeth tend to yellow as we age, it is actually lifestyle habits, such as smoking and consuming teeth-staining food and drinks, that have the biggest effect. Consuming food and drink on a regular basis that stains clothes? Then it’s that’ll you’ll have stained teeth.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Laser Teeth Whitening?

We always advise our clients and prospective patients to read up and pay particular attention to trustworthy teeth whitening safety tips (which can be found here). Although this is purely a cosmetic treatment, it is still a medical procedure and you should treat it with the necessary precautions.

Firstly, your oral health will need to be in good shape for teeth whitening. You should have no active signs of gum disease or tooth decay; if you have any tooth or gum sensitivity caused by dental health problems, then teeth whitening treatments can make things worse.

Secondly, if you have antibiotic staining on your teeth, teeth whitening treatments will not help. This is because antibiotic staining is on the inside of the tooth, not the outside, and tooth whitening treatments are only effective for stains on the outside of the teeth. If you do have antibiotic staining, dental veneers are a good solution.

Is Laser Teeth Whitening a Good Treatment for Dental Tourists?

Most dental treatments are good for dental tourists, but teeth whitening particularly so. For laser teeth whitening, it’s worth bearing in mind that the treatment is:

● Quick, taking less than 2 hours

● Painless and with no downtime (although some people do have temporarily increased sensitivity for a few days after)

● Effective, whitening teeth by up to 14 shades

What about Take-Home Teeth Whitening Treatments?

Take-home whitening kits, while not as effective as laser teeth whitening, do offer a more subtle approach, and allows you to control the degree of whitening yourself. When you’re happy with the effect achieved, you simply stop the treatment. You can resume it at any time by obtaining further whitening gel from your dentist at home if you want to maintain your white smile.

You will need two appointments with your chosen dentist in the UAE for at-home whitening kits:

1. During the first one, you will have impressions made of your teeth to be sent to a laboratory. The lab will make custom-fit trays that fit over your teeth, which will hold the whitening gel.

2. As it will take a few days for the lab to make the trays and send them to your dentist, you will need to wait and then go back to pick them up from your dentist before you leave the UAE.

What Is the Procedure for Teeth Whitening? How Long Will it Take?

Laser Teeth Whitening:

The procedure takes around an hour. Your dentist will clean your teeth before the procedure begins, removing tartar and stubborn stains. You will be given goggles to protect your eyes from the laser and the dentist will protect the soft tissues of your mouth from the bleaching gel but placing a rubber dam around your teeth.

Bleaching gel is then applied to the teeth. The laser is pointed at the gel, which activates the whitening agents. Depending on what teeth whitening system your dentist uses, the gel may only be applied once and left on your teeth for 45 minutes, or it may be applied several times for intervals of 15 minutes. Once the required time is complete, the dentist removes the gel and cleans your teeth again to ensure all traces have gone. You will be shown your new smile, which will be immediately noticeably whiter.

At-Home Whitening Kits:

The dental trays are typically worn at night, for a period of two weeks. Every morning, you will have to remove all traces of the gel from your teeth and the trays and brush your teeth thoroughly.
