Fillings in Singapore

The ultimate guide to Fillings in Singapore

Last fact-checked: 5 April 2020

Need to find a clinic for a dental filling in Singapore? Dental Departures can help you find a reputable facility where you’ll pay considerably less than you would back home.

Whether you’re a business or leisure traveller to Singapore, dental care may not be uppermost on your list of things to do. However, you may not have much choice about the matter if an emergency strikes. A filling may break or fall out, and while you could wait until you get home to have it repaired, getting it replaced in Singapore can save you money and a whole lot of hassle.

The same thing could be said if you have some time to kill and you’ve neglected your dental health. Taking just minutes out of your schedule can get your dental health back on track—and, surprisingly in Singapore, you can probably save some money compared to the costs at home.

Will It Matter If I Don’t Have a Filling?

In the long-term, yes. Dental fillings are a necessary part of preventive dentistry; these are normally simple measures taken to prevent disease and dental problems from taking a firmer hold. Good dental care is very much concerned with treating small problems, which prevents them from becoming bigger and often more expensive problems to fix in the future.

For example, harmful bacteria erode teeth, causing decay. Once decay reaches the soft, pulpy centre of your tooth, bacteria will attack the nerve and other tissues contained in it. This leads to infection, requiring a root canal treatment if you want to preserve the function of the tooth. If you don’t have the root canal, your tooth will have to be extracted.

Why Are Dental Fillings Beneficial to Dental Health?

Dental fillings are important because they fill the decayed cavities in our teeth that are produced by bacteria. This prevents further damage by sealing up any cavities so bacteria cannot penetrate the tooth. Fillings also preserve the structure of the tooth, ensuring it functions as it should. Satisfying cosmetic results are achieved these days with porcelain or composite fillings which are tooth-coloured, rather than the silver, amalgam fillings used so much in the past.

What Is the Procedure for a Filling? How Long Will It Take?

The dental fillings procedure only takes a few minutes. The dentist will examine your mouth and may take x-rays to determine the extent of your tooth decay. You can also discuss which material you prefer or the one your dentist recommends.

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. Once the area around your tooth has been numbed, the dentist begins to remove the decayed areas on your tooth. This is done with hand tools or sometimes a laser. Once all the decay has been removed, your dentist will clean the area and apply the filling to the cavity. This takes a minute-or-two to harden. The dentist will then file the filling to shape; once happy, it will finally be polished to provide a smooth area, just like your own tooth.

Why Should I Choose a Dentist in Singapore?

  1. It’s Quick. Your visit to the dentist for a dental filling will take less than an hour—a small price to pay for keeping your dental health in check.
  1. It Keeps Your Mouth Healthy. Preventive care is widely recognised as being the best way of maintaining your oral health and procedures like dental fillings play a pivotal role in doing exactly this.
  1. Excellent Facilities

Private healthcare services in Singapore are generally of the highest caliber. Dentists are well-qualified; clinics are modern and equipped with the latest technologies; international standards on safety and hygiene are followed rigorously.
