How Good Are Dental implants in Istanbul?

Obviously, if you are looking to make savings as a dental tourist then Istanbul is a great location to consider. The city has a thriving medical tourism scene and the dentists in the finer clinics are approachable, highly-skilled and welcoming. Their qualifications stand up against any other countries in Europe or throughout the world. Like their counterparts in other countries, dentists in Istanbul are part of the international community and likely to have memberships with world-renowned professional organisations, such as the International Congress of Oral Implantologists .

Istanbul may be an ancient city, but its medical facilities are contemporary and modern. Dental clinics that treat international clientele are state-of-the-art, conform to internationally-accepted guidelines on hygiene and are equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, including 3D/CT scanning, digital x-rays and CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacture) for while-you-wait prosthodontics, such as crowns and veneers.

If you are thinking about traveling to Istanbul for your dental implants, there’s no need to have any qualms that the standard of dental care will be any less than it is at home.

What Should I Know About the Dental Implants Procedure?

You should bear in mind that the procedure usually requires two trips, unless you are considering an All-on-4 or All-on-6 treatment. Even with two visit, you’ll likely pay less than the procedure alone at home—and what better excuse do you need than to enjoy a couple of additional holidays to Istanbul?

The dental implant is made up of three parts—the implant itself that is embedded into the jaw bone (acting like a tooth root); the abutment (which joins the implant to false tooth (crown).

The first part of the procedure involves placing the implant into the jaw. You will be given a local anaesthetic, or conscious sedation for this. An incision is made in the gum so the dentist can access the jaw, then the implant is placed into the jaw. You will need to wait a minimum of three months before the abutment can be installed and the crown attached. This is so the implant can fuse with the jaw bone in a process called osseointegration, which provides a sufficiently strong platform for your false tooth to be attached.

When you return for the crown to be attached, the procedure only involves opening the gum to expose the implant, attaching the abutment, restoring the gum and attaching the crown.

Is Istanbul a Good Location for Dental Tourists?

Istanbul is a great city for dental tourists. Notwithstanding the excellent facilities and medical staff in the city, you’ll also find you’ll have more than enough to keep you occupied on the days when you aren’t at the dental clinic.

The city was an important trading and commercial centre for goods sent east to the west, an important stopover along the Silk Road. Istanbul is very much a cosmopolitan city, while wearing the hearts from all the empires that have made it their capital for centuries. Ottoman, Byzantine and Roman architecture is ubiquitous throughout the city, and the passage of merchants and craftsmen through the city’s docks a vital characteristic of the city’s identity.

Districts like Kadikoy are being renovated with trendy boutique shopping, fabulous restaurants and relaxing waterside walkways. In just this district you’ll find the cobblestoned Tellalzade Sokak—a flea market that’s essential for those who like rummaging for vintage ephemera; dozens of Turkish tavernas in Meyhane; a lighthouse and gardens at Fenerbahce; a seaside promenade at Moda with stunning views over the Sea of Marmara to Old Istanbul and the Bagdat Caddesi (Baghdad Avenue)—a wide, tree-lined street with upmarket shopping, bars and restaurants.
