How Long Do Dental Implants Take in Phuket?

Before any dental implants are placed, your dentist will assess the health of your mouth, gums and jaw bone with x-rays and, sometimes, CT scans. Any problems with any of these areas will need to be treated first before implants can be inserted.

The procedure is usually carried out under a local anesthetic, although IV sedation may be used if it is going to be a long procedure, or the patient is particularly anxious. Your dentist will then cut the gum where the dental implant is to be placed and a small hole is drilled into the jawbone. The implant is then fitted into the socket, and the gum stitched back over the implant. The implant is then left to heal and to integrate with the jawbone. This usually takes between three and six months. You will be given dentures or a temporary bridge to wear during the 'healing period'. Or if only one implant has been placed, you may elect to leave the gap.

After the healing period, you will return to your dentist who will fit the permanent restoration to the dental implant.
