The ultimate guide to All on 6
Last fact-checked: 16 August 2022
The All-on-6 dental implant technique can replace an entire arch of teeth in just one day, with a final fixed prosthesis attached a few months following the surgical placement of six dental implants.
This permanent full-arch rehabilitation technique creates a more satisfying outcome compared to traditional dentures and provides a long-term remedy to the problem of missing teeth.
Find out what an All-on-6 mouth makeover entails and discover reputable global providers across our network of background-checked clinics in top destinations like Hungary, Thailand, Turkey, Bali, Mexico and Costa Rica.
What Is an All-on-6?
All-on-6 is a tooth-replacement system that refers to ‘all’ the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw being replaced with a bridge supported by ‘six’ dental implants.
The implants are inserted into the jaw bone, eventually integrating with the bone in a process called osseointegration. Once this has happened, the implant provides strong, sturdy support for your dentist to install either a single crown or multiple teeth in a bridge.
Are All-on-6’s a Suitable Dental Tourism Treatment?
Yes. As perhaps you have learned, the treatment is expensive for people living in North America, Europe or Australasia – with prices averaging around US $27,000 (CAN $37,000; UK £22,000; EUR €25,000; AUS $38,000; NZ $39,000). Prices abroad can be up to 70% cheaper, reason enough for people to seek options overseas.
The beauty of All-on-6 is that implants and teeth can be fitted in a matter of hours – which is why the procedure is also known as ‘teeth in a day’. Downtime is minimal. All-on-6's are likely to be suitable for patients with bone loss who cannot have traditional implants without undergoing a bone graft procedure.
What Is the Procedure for All-on-6 Treatment?
1. Assessment
Your dentist will conduct a thorough examination, taking x-rays and scans to assess the anatomical structures in your mouth and the extent (if any) of bone loss. If you are suitable for the All-on-6 procedure, impressions will be made of your mouth to send to the Laboratory that will manufacture your new teeth.
2. Treatment Day
The procedure can be carried out under intravenous sedation or local anaesthetic. It typically takes around 2 hours per jaw. If you need to have any extractions, these can be done at the same time, and the areas around the extraction sites cleansed thoroughly.
The dental implants will be inserted into the jaw. Four will be placed in the front of the jaw, and two, placed at an angle, at the rear. A temporary arch of teeth will be placed, which is lighter than a permanent restoration, and will allow your mouth time to heal.
3. Permanent Restoration
After a few months, you will return to your dentist to have your permanent teeth affixed. These are usually in the form of a full row of porcelain or ceramic crowns cemented onto a full-arch acrylic bridge, which latches onto the now-secure dental implants that have fused with the jawbone.
Do Dental Implants Need Any Special Care?
Although your dental implants will be sturdy when they are first placed, you will need to give them time to "bed-in" and integrate with your bone, which takes a few months. During this period be careful what you eat – avoid hard, chewy stick toffees or crunching ice cubes!
If you've been following a healthy regimen of brushing and flossing daily, your new teeth won’t require additional care. Look after your new teeth properly and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t last for years.

Many dentists have trained in other countries and there are professional organizations, such as the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, that dentists with a particular specialty may have affiliations with, confirming they have a particular skill set.
Dental clinics may also have affiliations, particularly with regard to hygiene and safety standards, and may specify they are signed up to the International Organization for Standardization or similar official bodies.
